Our "Innovators in flowerbulbs" slogan particularly refers to our extensive breeding program for bulbous and tuberous plants. Breeding is one of our core activities and is conducted under the Kapiteyn Breeding BV name.
In developing new and exclusive varieties of bulbous and tuberous plants, we closely cooperate with other companies in well-known growers associations such as Remarkable (tulips), Orientalis (hyacints) en Marklily (lilies). Since the early 1990s, we have also been managing our own breeding programme for new varieties of Callas, which are introduced on the market through the Captain Select growers association.
Our objective is to develop new exclusive bulbous and tuberous plants, based on cooperation, innovation and technology. The added value of the new selections is essential for new introduced varieties. At Kapiteyn, quality represents a combination of excellent growing power and high disease resistance. These requirements must be combined with good flowering and breeding qualities. We are convinced of the ever-increasing achievement of this goal.
Developing new varieties of bulbous and tuberous plants is a process requiring many years and a lot of patience and commitment. The efforts are chain-oriented: we use an experienced eye to examine which assortment should be developed. For each plant, defined requirements are placed on the new selections, which are then tested in cooperation with leading professional companies.
